The system was presented at the PacTec event in Helsinki in March 2026, where Heliostorage introduced the Heat Bank as a practical and scalable solution for companies seeking more flexible, cost-efficient, and sustainable heat production.
Inspired by a principle familiar from Finnish sauna culture, the Heat Bank stores energy as heat in large stones. Charged through controlled electrical resistive heating, the system enables high-temperature operation of up to 400 °C while remaining robust, durable, and low-maintenance.
The Heat Bank shifts heat production to periods of low-cost electricity, such as overnight hours or times of surplus renewable generation. The stored heat can then be delivered as hot air or hot water when needed, helping industrial users reduce exposure to price volatility, improve operational flexibility, and lower peak energy costs.
Managed by our Smart Controller, the Heat Bank uses ML-based demand forecasting, weather data, electricity market prices and site-specific heating demand to make charge and discharge decisions. It can also capture excess heat from the return stream, reducing waste and lowering the electricity required for heat production to create further cost savings.
Manufactured in Kokkola, Finland, the Heat Bank is designed to reduce exposure to fuel price shocks, electricity price volatility and peak demand costs, providing commercial, industrial and district heating operators with a practical route to lower-cost, more secure heat production.
