Industrial Waste Heat
The customer is Finn Spring, a family business from Central Ostrobothnia that produces approximately 90 million liters of various spring water-based beverages annually. The company is the largest spring water packager in Finland with a market share of approximately 90 percent. The BTES captures waste heat from three Kaeser compressors. There are also solar thermal panels installed which generate additional heat. Software at this installation was developed by Centria University.

Planning and Installation
Preparing the BTES Components for Transit
This project was completed in cooperation with Centria University. Heliostorage manufactured and installed the Borehole Thermal Energy Storage (BTES) system, while Centria University engineered the control software.
BTES Installation
The installation was completed in February 2019. The BTES was installed in a field behind the factory, which is used for growing crops.
Heat Sources
An air to water heat exchanger was used to capture waste heat from the three compressors. Two sets of solar thermal collectors were added for testing purposes – the Heliostorage solar thermal collectors and some regular flat panel collectors.
Commissioning and Operation
This installation was commissioned in February 2019. The smart controller software synchronizes and optimizes three process compressors in the bottling plant. Heat from the BTES is used to heat the plant during winter. The pipe work uses a PEX and PERT tubing. BTES core temperature in August 2020 was 60 °C.
