Renewable Cooling
The customer is Guangzhou Power & Heat, which is part of the China Southern Grid. The BTES collects renewable heat for an absorption chilling process and stores it long-term, allowing the facility to tap into this energy throughout the winter when solar thermal panels aren’t generating.

Planning and Installation
Our 1 GWh storage project in China began in early 2020, right before COVID-19 travel restrictions took hold. Despite the challenges of remote coordination and a significant language barrier, the ease of installation built into our BTES design made local collaboration possible. Even without sending an on-site engineer from Finland, we successfully guided a local firm through the setup—proving that thoughtful engineering can overcome both distance and cultural differences.
Preparing the BTES Components for Transit
We manufacture all our products in Kokkola. Carefully packing the BTES components and controller is a meticulous task. We use custom-built frames to ensure secure transport over long distances. This underscores our commitment to delivering high-quality solutions anywhere in the world.

Remotely Managed Installation
Despite being fully managed from a distance, the installation proceeded smoothly and finished on schedule. Our remote coordination tools and clear instructions allowed local teams to handle each step with confidence, showcasing the reliability and ease of our system—even under challenging conditions.

Commissioning and Operation
Commissioned in February 2022, the site has since passed all acceptance tests and is now fully operational. It captures waste heat from Convion’s fuel cells alongside surplus solar thermal energy from SavoSolar’s collectors, storing both in the BTES for later use. During cooler months, that stored heat drives an absorption chilling process—using heat rather than electricity to produce cooling. By combining multiple heat sources and long-term thermal storage, the system ensures efficient year-round energy utilization.
